pgModeler – PostgreSQL Database Modeler is an open-source, cross-platform data modeling tool created by the pgModeler Project. It enables you to design PostgreSQL databases visually, validate your models, and generate clean, ready-to-run SQL. Bridging design and operations, pgModeler supports reverse engineering, schema comparison, and synchronization so you can evolve databases safely and consistently.

Highlights:

  • Visual ER modeling tailored to PostgreSQL
  • Support for PostgreSQL-specific objects such as tables, views (including materialized), indexes, sequences, constraints, functions, triggers, types (domains, enums), schemas, roles, extensions, and partitions
  • Reverse engineering of existing databases and import of live schemas
  • Diff and synchronization to compare models with databases and produce migration scripts
  • Model validation and configurable design rules to catch inconsistencies early
  • Export of SQL, diagram images, and documentation
  • Command-line interface for automation and CI/CD workflows
  • Runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux; open source under the GPLv3 license

With an intuitive Qt-based interface and robust automation options, pgModeler streamlines the full lifecycle of PostgreSQL schema design, deployment, and maintenance.
